Stephen praises work of volunteers and their contribution to our communities

Stephen praised the work of volunteers in our communities, and called for a debate in parliament to highlight the enormous contribution they make in society.

Speaking in the House of Commons today (Thursday, June 5), during Volunteers Week, Stephen touched on the importance of volunteering, and praised the good work that is being done locally and events being held to celebrate it.

The Wales Council for Voluntary Action estimates that around half a million people in Wales are involved in formal volunteering.

Stephen will attend a lecture by the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow MP, looking at ‘Engaging with 21st century politics and volunteering’ in Cardiff Bay this evening; and tomorrow (June 6) he will be speaking at the 50th anniversary exhibition of Voluntary Community Service (VCS) Cardiff, alongside colleagues Vaughan Gething AM and Jenny Rathbone AM, with the focus on youth and the next 50 years of volunteering in Cardiff.
