Becky Williams and Stephen Doughty MPStephen met up with local young defence employee Becky Williams at a recent reception at the House of Commons.

Becky, from Penarth, an Operations Graduate with Babcock International Group, attended the apprenticeship reception organised by ADS Group, the defence trade association, and hosted by Shadow Secretary of State for Defence, Jim Murphy MP.

The event was held to recognise the contribution of apprentices and graduates in the sector, and brought together members of the Young Professionals in Defence Forum – a unique group established 18 months ago to facilitate idea exchange and networking among young people working in the UK defence sector.

Becky and Stephen met up at the reception, and discussed the opportunities available in UK aerospace. With more than 25,000 graduates and 3,000 apprentices working in the industry across the UK, the defence sector is a major contributor to both the local and national economy.

Stephen said: “At a time when it is particularly difficult for young people to find a job, the sector is providing highly-skilled and rewarding apprenticeships across the UK.

“It was a delight to meet Becky and I was fascinated to learn about her exciting apprenticeship.”

Babcock is the UK’s leading engineering support services organisation, delivering critical support behind the scenes in the Defence, energy, telecommunications, transport and education sectors.

The Defence division covers Sea, Land and Air, with Babcock playing a unique role supporting the Royal Navy, the MoD, and delivering flying training, aircraft provision and through-life support to the UK’s armed forces.
