Stephen honoured to be elected as member of International Development Committee

Stephen has been elected as one of the Labour members of the House of Commons International Development Committee, following a ballot this week.

He said: “I am honoured and delighted to have been elected by Labour colleagues to take up a position on the International Development Committee in Parliament, scrutinising the work of DFID and UK Aid to support the world’s poorest people with health and education, tackle disease and respond to disasters and conflict.

“With my background working at DFID and leading international charities such as Oxfam and World Vision, I hope I can play a key role in scrutinising UK government efforts in these areas – at a time when we face a number of global humanitarian crises, the challenges of conflict and climate change, and the fact that far too many people still live below the poverty line or can’t access schools and hospitals.

“I am proud of the role so many people play locally in Penarth and Cardiff, as well as across Wales, fundraising and volunteering to support international development, fair trade and disaster relief – and I hope to be able to highlight their work whenever I can.”
