Job Details

Responding to the diverse needs of his constituents is a key priority for Stephen, and he is looking for an experienced caseworker, self-starting, with excellent relationship and communication skills, an attention to detail, and the ability to handle complex and often sensitive situations, working with a wide-range of external bodies, agencies and government departments. Sympathy to challenges faced by constituents in Cardiff South and Penarth is desirable.

Candidates with experience of working on immigration and social security issues are strongly encouraged to apply. This is advertised as a full time position but some limited flexibility may be available. Some weekend working may be required, for which appropriate time off in lieu will be given. Key Criteria

1 to 2 years’ experience in a similar casework or advocacy role working for an elected representative, or in the public or voluntary sectors.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience of managing a wide range of complex external relationships effectively.

Experience in working on immigration and/or social security issues would be an advantage.

Ability to work autonomously, with minimal day-to-day direction.

Excellent information management skills, including awareness of Data Protection law.

Ability to speak a language other than English that is spoken locally (eg Welsh, Somali, Bengali, Urdu, Arabic etc) would be an advantage.

 

Key Responsibilities

Deal with daily enquiries from members of the public, by phone or in person, taking appropriate action to resolve, document or escalate their concerns or enquiries.

Provide advice and support to constituents on a variety of issues, including working with Government departments, external agencies (eg the Police) and the voluntary sector to resolve matters.

Support Stephen in organising and managing regular constituency surgeries, and opportunities to reach out to all parts of the community.

Ensure compliance of the office with all relevant data protection and confidentiality requirements.

Work closely with the staff of the local constituency Assembly Member and local Councillors.

Undertake other administrative duties as required.
